What power does an abandoned photo hold? The subject long forgotten, but a feeling still present.

A Photo From Yesterday is a nostalgic, quiet story that unfolds between Samuel and August, two runaway teenagers in the Pacific Northwest. This film came from a fascination with old photos. Once vibrant snapshots of someone's life, they now exist without context. It's a story about self-discovery for anyone who has ever felt caught between identities, queer or otherwise.

The mountain pass that splits Washington state becomes a liminal space in the film, Samuel caught between two shifting landscapes, and two versions of himself. Beneath the surface, that geography mirrors a divide in perspective too: the more accepting cities of Western Washington against the more conservative, rural East. The land is as much a character as the people in it.

This is a film about memory: not just the past that holds us back, but the moments we're living now that we won't recognize as meaningful until later. It's about what it costs to leave a version of yourself behind. Like the photos that inspired it, we hope this film lingers.
